Mountain Fold

A Mountain Fold is one of the simplest folds that is performed in Origami, but that doesn’t mean it’s unimportant! Mountain folds come up in almost every Origami model, and they’re also the building blocks of many of the more complex folds.

In it’s purest form, this involves folding the paper away from you to create a “mountain” shape.

Mountain Folds are usually shown in diagrams with a line of dots and dashes.

Despite the simplicity, the key with these folds is to take your time! Try to be accurate, and keep your folds crisp.

Sometimes, making a Mountain Fold can feel a little awkward. If you feel like you’re struggling, you can always flip the paper over, make a valley fold, and flip it back again to get the same result.

Try to resist the urge to make these folds in the air when you’re starting out. It might feel easier, but can be tricky to make an accurate fold.
