Outside Reverse Fold

An Outside Reverse fold is a common fold used in models of all difficulties. It is often used to create outward facing points like beaks or ears.

Outside Reverse folds involve folding a section of paper outwards, often away from an existing point.

In diagrams, they’re usually shown with Mountain and Valley folds that indicate the pre-creasing required, and arrows to the direction of the fold.

The key to a clean Outside Reverse fold is to have accurate pre-creases and take your time. With these folds, it’s also very easy to tear the paper so be very careful!

Diagrams

1 Step 1
Make a valley fold, folding the paper in half
2 Step 2
Make another valley fold at an arbitrary point, creating an overlap as shown
3 Step 3
Unfold that back to where it started
4 Step 4
Open the model slightly, and create a valley fold on the side closest to you, and a mountain fold on the other side
5 Step 5
Continue to push the paper to complete the valley folds
6 Step 6
Congratulations! You've made an outside reverse fold
