Pleat Fold

Pleat folds are an intermediate technique that tends to be used more often in intermediate and complex models, although they do come up from time to time in simple ones as well.

Pleats are used to add structure, texture or shaping details, and are formed by making pairs of parallel Mountain and Valley folds that stack together.

In diagrams, they are usually shown as parallel creases along with a zig-zag style arrow indicating the pleat.

The key to success is to take your time making the initial Mountain and Valley folds to get them precise, before you attempt to make the final pleat.

Diagrams

1 Step 1
Make a valley fold, folding the paper in half
2 Step 2
Make a valley and mountain fold in parallel to each other. Fold through both layers so that you are left with an overlap
3 Step 3
Congratulations! You've made a pleat fold
