Folding Fundamentals

June 12, 2025

We’re firm believers that Origami is a great hobby, that can be picked up by anyone. All you need to get started is paper, and although all kinds of paper are available, you can fold with pretty much anything you have to hand.

That said, when you’re starting out there are diagrams and tutorials you follow that use terminology you haven’t seen before. You’re following the steps and come across an “Inside Reverse Fold” for the first time and you might have no idea what that means.

When we set out to build this site, we wanted it to be accessible to folders of all skill levels. That’s why we’re pleased to announce that our first two sections of the site; Folds and Bases, are almost complete!

That “Inside Reverse Fold” we mentioned earlier? In the Folds area, you can find Diagrams and step by step instructions on how to complete that, and various other folds you will find mentioned during your Origami journey.

In the Bases area, we have step by step instructions on how to fold a variety of common bases used in Origami. The next time you look at some instructions that say “start with a Bird Base”, look no further than here to get started.

We’re really excited to reach this milestone on the site! Check back soon for guides that will allow you to utilise these fundamentals. Until then, Happy Folding!
